Things I've built

A game, a client product and an app my family uses every day.

WaveLength puzzle in progress: an input sawtooth wired through Divide and Add chips toward target output meters

Featured project

WaveLength

A browser puzzle game about signal processing. Players wire chips together to shape input waveforms into target outputs, and every solved puzzle becomes a reusable chip. Runs on a Canvas 2D engine written from scratch in TypeScript, built with Claude Code.

Result
Public beta with 6 puzzles and 1,300+ passing tests
Built with
TypeScript · Canvas API · React · Zustand · Vitest · Claude Code
Tabula workspace: rules sidebar, data table with before-and-after value chips, and the Inspector panel

Private client work

Tabula

A desktop app for building repeatable CSV workflows without code. Users compose typed rule blocks on a visual canvas to modify, exclude, or flag rows, see row by row why each value changed, and save every export as a replayable audit. Shipped to a client as a Windows installer.

Result
Shipped to a client as a Windows installer, built solo in four months
Built with
Electron · React · TypeScript · SQLite · Zustand · Mantine · Playwright
Three House Menu phone screens on a dark counter: the calendar feed of guest checks, an open meal ticket, and the grocery list

Personal project

The House Menu

A phone-first meal-planning PWA built for my household. Meals land on a calendar as diner guest checks, while a Postgres ledger tracks pantry stock, meal costs, and one shared grocery list that buys only what's missing.

Result
In daily use at home, backed by 133 tested database migrations
Built with
React · Vite · Supabase Postgres · Vercel Functions · Docker · Claude Code

Experience

Where I've built things that matter

  1. Apr 2026 – Jul 2026

    Remote

    Software Engineer

    Contract, private client

Designed and built Tabula solo, a desktop app that turns hand-edited CSV routines into repeatable, auditable workflows. Shipped to the client as a Windows installer, now in beta.

    • Built a typed rule language with a visual block editor, three-valued logic, and per-row traces that explain every changed value
    • Made every export replayable: snapshots, engine version, and a SHA-256 hash, with tests proving replays reproduce the original output
    • Shipped with about 810 unit tests and about 60 Playwright scenarios that drive the real Electron app
    • Kept a numbered decision log of 60+ entries through a mid-project pivot from single-purpose tool to general rule engine

    Electron · React · TypeScript · SQLite · Zustand · Playwright · Claude Code

Front End Engineer II, Design System Platform

    Expedia Group

Built and maintained React/TypeScript components in the Expedia Group Design System (EGDS), the shared UI layer every Expedia Group brand, including Expedia and Vrbo, builds its web experiences on. Rotated between brand-team support, maintenance, and feature pitches within agile teams of 3-5.

    • Built and maintained core EGDS components, including the modal, calendar, and seat selector, where layout, state, and keyboard access all have to hold up at once
    • As a designated Accessibility Champion, brought library components up to WCAG standards so every consuming brand inherited accessible defaults
    • Built paired GitHub Actions workflows that ran a temporary EGDS build against the largest consumer's full test suite, catching regressions our own tests missed. Kept the signal advisory so flaky consumer tests never eroded trust
    • Integrated a cascading design token system for customer theming, inheritance, and overrides, and built a Figma plugin that imports token values to keep designs aligned with the EGDS spec
    • Built a Storybook playground plugin for building, saving, and sharing interactive code snippets, delivered in 3 days with AI-assisted development
    • Embedded with brand teams on their sprints; unblocked Vrbo's crypto payment option with a team-owned component, then worked with head designers to promote it into the core library

    React · TypeScript · Storybook · GraphQL · GitHub Actions · Figma · Node.js · CSS/SCSS · Design Tokens · WCAG/A11y · Claude Code

  3. Apr 2020 – Nov 2020

    Austin, TX

    Associate Software Engineer

    Hubsharp Solutions

Software consulting role building and rebuilding applications for various clients. Worked across the full stack with API integrations, cloud storage, and database management.

    • Integrated Plaid API for bank onboarding, enabling secure financial account linking
    • Rebuilt an inventory management application from PHP/Laravel to Node/Express
    • Implemented secure file storage using AWS S3
    • Managed MongoDB databases across multiple client projects

    Node.js · Express · React · MongoDB · AWS S3 · PHP · Laravel

About

From signal chains to software

Eric Chavez · Seattle area

I specialize in building shared UI component libraries and design systems at scale, writing clean TypeScript and shipping well-scoped work that teams can depend on.

My path to software started in music production. I studied audio engineering at Full Sail University and spent years arranging tracks in a DAW. I discovered that what I loved about music was the same thing I love about software: the way interconnected systems create something greater than the sum of their parts. The instruments started collecting dust.

After a coding bootcamp where I graduated top of my cohort, I spent nearly four years building design system components at Expedia Group, collaborating cross-platform with designers and engineers across web, iOS, and Android. Now I'm building with AI-assisted development tools and looking for the next team where I can make an impact.

Off the clock

  • 3D Printing

I run a Raspberry Pi with Klipper and Mainsail to monitor and control my 3D printer, and print game miniatures and functional wall mounts.

  • Cooking

I cook, bake, and dial in coffee. Planning my family's meals is what led me to build The House Menu.

  • Hiking

I hike, camp, and ebike around the Pacific Northwest.

  • Music Production

Where it all started for me: a B.S. in Music Production and years of arranging tracks and signal chains in a DAW.

  • Video Game Design

I'm a lifelong gamer with an eye for mechanics and puzzle design. That curiosity turned into WaveLength's custom engine.
